Voter Suppression Modus Operandi & Fair Housing
This session will focus on unveiling the advancing means, methods and victims associated with voter suppression across the nation.

Developing Fair Housing - Tools for Addressing Voter Suppression and Gerrymandering
This interactive session will focus on the problems and offer proposed solutions and resolutions against a backdrop of the housing civil rights that are protected under The Act.

Break-Out for Attorneys - Back by Popular Demand - Ethical Considerations in Fair Housing Litigation
Speakers will review important issues concerning conflict of interest, retainer agreements; using separate attorneys when complainants and fair housing centers are litigants and other ethical considerations.

Hate Crimes - Historical Events and Fair Housing Protections
The panel will identify the general overview of hate crimes in America and specifically highlight the ways in which fair housing laws and other laws provide protections.

February 15th

DAY 1

The Past - Actions that Accomplished “Protected Classes”
Part 1- “To Know Where We Are Going, We Must Know Where We’ve ’Been” This session will examine the sociopolitical, economic and human rights nexus for housing civil rights protections as provided under federal and state laws. Panelist will give an historical and legislative backdrop for “protections” gained from 1866 through February 2018.

Future Challenges to Accomplish - Strengthen  Protected Classes
This session will examine steps that can be taken through collaboration, legislation, and other strategies that will further strengthen less well-established and/or create non-existent housing civil rights as LGBT/other groups that seek protection under the Fair Housing Act.

Basic Coverage of Fair Housing Laws That Establish Housing Civil-Rights
This fair housing 101 in-depth, comprehensive review is for new lawyers, advocates, housing counseling staff, community-based agencies, housing providers and others.

Future - Immigration Reform-Meets Housing Civil Rights
To meet future challenges, the question becomes, can we build bridges and showcase a model for “fair housing” infusion into immigration reform- policies and practices. What would the model look like?

Future - The Environment and Housing
Can we preserve and promote environmental protections in partnership with the advancement of housing civil rights? How do we merge rights with resources for solutions?

DAY 2

The Enforcement Team - Fifty Years of Enforcement
Speakers will focus on the roles of the federal, state, and local governments in securing and furthering fair housing rights. The focus will on the interrelationship
between entities that are responsible for protecting and enforcing housing rights, remedies and obligations under fair housing laws.


Part I- §504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 (As Amended)-Educating All About All Provisions
This session is designed to give a broad overview of the requirements for housing providers on behalf of intended beneficiaries under the Act.

A Review of the Supreme Court
Via Taped Video, Professor Erwin Chemerinsky will provide his annual update on the U.S. Supreme Court work.  This much-heralded and insightful presentation delves into the composition of the Supreme Court, discusses cases heard or with potential to be heard by the court and presents a variety of other perspectives concerning the impact of court decisions on the matters of fair housing.
