Reinaldo Avila​

Bilingual Housing Discrimination Specialist Coordinator

Reinaldo Avila is a fair housing specialist with 14 years of experience, as a Bilingual Housing Discrimination Specialist Coordinator he investigates, prepares, and files housing discrimination complaints with the US Department of Housing & Urban Development and the Department of Fair Employment and Housing. He has testified in numerous fair housing cases and as an advocate has represented clients and the fair housing agency in the administrative agency setting.

Reinaldo provides technical guidance to the general public and housing industry, which include local and state government agencies, property owners, developers, advocates, and tenants about state and federal fair housing.  His expertise includes multi-lingual outreach and networking with community-based organizations and the media. He has extensive knowledge of the Hispanic media market and has been interviews on television and in print media including, Univision KMEX Channel 34, Mundo Fox Channel 22, Azteca Channel 54 and La Opinion and Hoy newspaper. He has received a certificate from the National Fair Housing Alliance (NFHA) fair housing school, and training from HUD, DFEH and attended various fair housing conferences nationwide.

Our Purpose


To eliminate unlawful housing discrimination in the housing rental, sales, lending and property insurance markets on the basis of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, familial status (presence of children in the family), disability, age, ancestry, sexual orientation, marital status, source of income, or other basis as defined by law affecting the San Diego regional housing market.
