Michalyn Steele is currently the Francis R. Kirkham Professor of Law at BYU Law where she teaches Federal Indian Law, Civil Rights, Constitutional Law, and Evidence. Prior to joining the faculty, Michalyn worked as a Counselor to Assistant Secretary Larry Echo Hawk at the Department of Interior, as a Trial Attorney at the US Department of Justice Civil Rights Division, and as an Associate at the DC tribal law form of Sonosky Chambers. Professor Steele is a 2001 graduate of the Georgetown University Law Center. She also holds a B.A. and an M.A. in Humanities from Brigham Young University. She is a member of the Seneca Nation of Indians.
